I went on a great kayak trip this weekend out to the islands of Lake Champlain. We left after I taught on Sunday, and came back Monday afternoon — on the water a little more than 24 hours. What was amazing about the trip was how much time was fit into those 24 hours. It literally seemed like days. We ate great food, went swimming, did some kayaking to another island, basked in the sun. I was really blown away by the amount of time 24 hours could be.

The thing that I realized is that time expands when you are in the moment – when you are truly present. I think everybody realizes this, in one way or another, when you are on vacation. When you remove all the distractions that can occupy a day, you just get to now, and now is a vast as the universe. Now is infinite in space and time. It’s quite cool.

To be honest I often try to create that nowness in life, and it’s tough. What I’ve come to the conclusion of is that I need to practice yoga and I need to go on vacation – that’s where now is for me.
