Today I was driving to town and heard a great interview on VPR (Im a new, proud sustaining member!) with the author of the book Nine Lives: In Search of the Sacred in Modern India. I havent read it, but Im going to. The book follows the lives of 9 different spiritual people in India. The part that struck me in the interview was when the author was asked about his own spirituality and if living in India for 25 years may have changed his western view of spirituality. What he said was he has seen a profound change in himself, but its happened with a slow drip over a long time.
For me, thats the kind of change Ive experienced through yoga. Its long-term, slow, and profound. Its also hard for a western person, I think, to appreciate the pace of it. In yoga, each practice is another slow and steady step toward the pure joy in your heart. Just keep walking…just keep walking.
