This is one of my favorite quotes from the Bhagavad Gita. If you don’t know the story, Arjuna is a famous warrior and he is getting ready to begin a battle with his cousin, but he really doesn’t want to. Sadly, his cousin has been a real idiot, Arjuna keeps trying to appease his cousin, but finally Arjuna has had enough. Still, even as the war is about ready to begin, Arjuna is having second thoughts, so he has his chariot driver, Krishna, bring him to the Field between the two armies to check out the situation.
As Arjuna is looking over the opposing army he sees many relatives, friends, and mentors and tells Krishna he doesn’t want to fight. That is when Krishna (who it turns out is God) says, “With the sword of wisdom, sever the doubt in your heart.” The whole story is about the idea that when you are on the Field of life and you are struggling to do what you know is right and what you believe in it can be really hard. But you need to persevere, to put up a fight for what you believe in, to remove all doubt and listen to your True Self, listen to your heart. It’s definitely easier said than done – as is shown in the story – even after this part of the story and Arjuna realizes Krishna is God and is telling him to fight, he still is unsure. That just shows how tough it really can be to do the right thing – but it’s worth putting the quote on the refrigerator anyway! 🙂
So, with that, here is a short video with that theme in mind. Enjoy — John
