A few weeks ago we found out our dog, Shems, had bone cancer.  The vet gave us three choices — remove his leg, put him on constant pain medication, or put him to sleep.  We got Shems as a stray and the last thing we wanted to do was put him to sleep.  Even though we’ve only had in 5 months, he’s truly an amazing and sweet dog.  We aren’t the only ones that think so — even the vet said Shems should be a companion service dog.

In the end we decided to go with the amputation of his leg.  When we picked him up at the Vet after the operation it was pretty horrible.  First, he was missing a leg!   But, besides that his stitches were still bleeding a little bit, and he was having a hard time coordinating on 3 legs.  It was like a bad horror movie.

So, fast forwarding one week Shems is fantastic!  It’s pretty amazing.  He’s definitely pretty lazy, but he’s the same happy dog.  He wants to play, go for walks, be with us.  He wants to have fun.  He wants to live life to the fullest.

To me, it’s truly an amazing lesson that we only have the present and the future.  In a lot of ways, the past can be the thing that holds us back from our potential.  I hope you enjoy this week’s free yoga video that uses that as a theme.  🙂
